Fun with Videos

In the last couple of days I have been having a little fun with making videos. (A bit of relief from all the study) I signed up with Animoto to have a play around and see what I could come up with, before parting with any money on software of my own.

This is the little 1 minute video I made.

XHTML in, HTML 4.01 out!

For our Uni website project we are required to design and code using only xhtml and css and I am just loving it! The transition over to xhtml/css from html 4.01 transitional has been fairly breezy for me. We have the choice of designing in xhtml strict or xhtml transitional.

I decided to go with xhtml strict for more of a challenge. For those that don’t know, xhtml strict does not allow any presentational tags in the layout coding, so all styling is placed into a external stylesheet, which also happens to make it so much easier to alter any presentational elements and properties, such as colours etc.

Using tables for web page layout is so restrictive because it doesn’t allow you to be as creative as you would like and in my humble opinion, there is no comparison.

So……xhtml/css design ~ in…….html 4.01 ~ out!

I will now be designing all my client’s websites in xhtml/css. :)

Until next time,

Is it time to breathe yet?

This little head of mine is swimming with information at the moment, from all the things I am trying to undertake at one time. University web design units, “The Challenge“, and finishing off the touches to this site and the Uni project site.

But, even though I am pushing myself in doing multiple studies and projects simultaneously, I am loving keeping my mind active, rather than stagnating.

Today was quite a frustrating day trying to get a contact form to work properly to the specifications I wanted, specifically on one of the custom pages I made, but it was more difficult than I anticipated due to one thing or another, so it was put onto one of the default blog pages for the time being. It isn’t where I want it, but it will be….. because I don’t intend to give up and will work on it when I have time to figure it out.

Whether it wasn’t working due to information overload, I don’t know, but for the moment, I am happy just to be contactable! :)

I have only 10 days until my University assignment #2 (first draft website) is due in, complete with annotated bibliography, ugh! I am really enjoying the course and have learnt quite a few things I didn’t know, but this referencing thing is definitely not my cup of tea. Just let me design, I say! Ahem, I suppose I will muddle my way through the referencing and hope for the best. Wish me luck!

Until next time,

Welcome back!

It’s been a while coming, but the new site is finally up and running again. What do you think?

I am really pleased with the way it has turned out and proud as punch that this was my very first attempt at coding a Wordpress theme totally from scratch. And, I mean scratch! What a learning curve it was with quite a few hairs turning grey I can tell you! :)

There are still few more tweaks and things to do, but as you can see the bulk of it is done. Just have to add a contact form, otherwise no one will be contacting me and we can’t have that, after all the work I’ve done.

So, back to it. Don’t forget to check out the blog for info on what’s happening and new designs.

Until next time,
